Dr. Pietro Michelucci is the executive director of the Human Computation Institute, a multidisciplinary innovation center that develops crowd–powered systems to address societal problems. He is Editor–in–Chief of the 2013 Springer Handbook of Human Computation and founding editor of the open access journal Human Computation. Michelucci received a joint–PhD in cognitive science and mathematical psychology from Indiana University and spent ten years advising federal research agencies on Artificial Intelligence. In 2014, he led a three–day summit at the Wilson Center, which produced a national road–map for Human Computation research and compelled the founding of the institute. He currently leads the Stall Catchers citizen science project, which accelerates Alzheimer’s research, as well as new citizen science projects tackling sickle cell disease, small vessel disease, and COVID19.
Libuše Vepřek is a research associate and PhD student at the Institute for European Ethnology and Cultural Analysis at the University of Munich (LMU). She holds master’s degrees in cultural anthropology and computer science, and was a prior intern at the Human Computation Institute.
Lisa Gusman is co-PI of Beta Catchers. Lisa Gusman and Margaret Lane are research associates at the Human Computation Institute, contributing to the development of novel hybrid intelligence methods for the analysis of biomedical imagery.
